2019 MJSA Design Challenge: Striking the Right Note
MJSA: Striking the Right Note In 2019, I was invited to a design challenge sponsored by MJSA, a trade alliance, and Columbia Gem House, a mine-to-market supply chain for ethical gems. A hypothetical client and selected gems were chosen for 9 jewelry designers to render a piece of jewelry. My design concept was voted the winner of the 2019 challenge. It was an honor to be invited to participate in this fun exercise. Read my design concept behind this bracelet here and here.
2017 Niche Awards, Winner in the Silver Category
Through this dahlia, I wanted to show the delicacy and resilience of nature, something that we should treasure and care for. I use the anticlastic raising technique to shape each silver petal over forming stakes with various hammers to achieve the light and airy quality of a delicate flower. The petals were depletion guilded and edges were polished for textural and color contrast. Peridot and Blue Topaz beads were then sewn to the center with sterling wires. 2.5 x 2.5 x 1 inch, Brooch that converts into a Pendant.
