From my Gemma Collection, a beautiful multicolor (blue, gray, black and white) upcycled vintage fordite is captured by sterling prongs set on a sterling backplate. The open back shows off how the pattern continues to the back. Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor City agate, is old automotive paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. It was formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted. Fordite is now cut and polished by lapidary artists and highly sought after in art jewelry.
